At least five people, including two children, were killed and 15 others injured in incidents of house collapse and drowning following incessant rain in the past two days in Moradabad and Jyotirba Phula Nagar districts of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said Tuesday.

While a 10-year-old child was killed in a house collapse in village Veerpur, a four-year-old died in Bhagatpur block and an old couple and another person in village Kaurala in the two districts, the sources said.

Major rivers in the area, including the Ramganga and Gangan, were flowing above danger mark due to the continuous showers even as traffic on the Delhi-Lucknow highway was disrupted for several hours due to water flowing over it at several places.

Meanwhile, Commissioner K S Arora told reporters in Moradabad that all precautionary measures had been taken to prevent further loss of lives.
