At least 30 Bangladeshi fishermen were feared killed and hundreds more missing after their boats were caught in stormy weather and tidal waves, officials said Wednesday.

Officials of boat and fish trading associations told television channels that 30 people were feared drowned, while they were waiting for the return of several hundred more. Many have taken shelter either in Indian or Myanmar coasts, they said.

Usually most of those listed missing return home after taking shelter in safer coasts. At least 15 fishermen died off the coast of hard-hit Barguna district, local media reports said. A good number of shrimp enclosures have also been washed away by the tidal surge incurring huge losses, the reports said.
