Karnataka high court on Monday confirmed the death sentence awarded to Shradhananda alias Murali Manohar Mishra by a lower court for murdering his wife Shakereh Khaleeli.

The Division bench comprising Justice S G Bannurmut and Justice A C Kabbin in its 150-page order upheld the death sentence passed by a Session court on May 21.

Shradhananda, who married Khaleeli, grand daughter of former Dewan of Mysore, Sir Mirja Ismail, had murdered her in 1991 and buried the body in the portico of her house.

The police arrested Shradhananda on March 29, 1994.

After the Session court passed death sentence, Shradhananda had challenged the verdict in the high court.
