A family of 9, including two women and two children, were injured when a blast occurred in a furniture godown in  Mukherjee colony on Panipat's Jatal road late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

The injured have been admitted to a local civil hospital and police have started investigating the blast. A team of forensic experts has already visited the site and another team will also inspect it.

The blast, which occurred on Wednesday night, demolised the walls and the tin-roof was flown into pieces. Ranjit and five members of his family were sleeping in the open space of the house, adjacent to the godown and the bricks of the walls fell upon them, police said.

After hearing the sound of blast, people rushed to the spot and rescued the family members. Police also reached the spot but have not reached any conclusion about the blast.

The godown owner, Lachhman Singh, has also been admitted to a local private hospital
