A day after his expulsion from the party was revoked, following his letter of 'apology to party president L K Advani, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Madan Lal Khurana said on Tuesday that he had only 'expressed regrets' and 'not apologised'.

"Maine maafi nahi mangi hai, khali khed vyakt kiya hai (I have not apologised but only expressed regrets)," Khurana said, after meeting former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He added that party general secretary Pramod Mahajan had also used the same language, but the media had misconstrued it.

Khurana said he visited Vajpayee at his residence to express thanks for his intervention in the matter relating to his expulsion.

Khurana was suspended on August 20 and then expelled on September 7 for attacking Advani's leadership. His expulsion was revoked on Monday, after he wrote to Advani ostensibly tendering an 'apology' for his outburst against the party chief.
