"Hectic efforts are underway through various diplomatic channels to seek release of Singh," Jaiswal told reporters in Varanasi on Monday.

The union minister refused to set a timeframe for Singh's release but hoped the matter would be resolved soon.

Referring to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's [Images] reported statement that Singh was involved in the bomb blast in Pakistan in which several people were killed 14 years ago, Jaiswal said, "whatever can be done is being done on the issue."
