Nasik: No loudspeakers for azaan

September 12, 2005 11:57 IST

Respecting the Supreme Court guidelines, imams and moulavis in Nasik have taken a unanimous decision to stop the use of loudspeaker for the azaan, the call to prayer.

This was decided at a meeting held on Sunday by senior police officers and Muslim leaders of different mosques.

The leaders said the Supreme Court decision on banning use of loudspeaker should be followed. Since there is no rule of using loudspeaker for azaan, this decision will not be a violation of the shariyat.

The Supreme Court has banned the use of loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am to prevent noise pollution.
