Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon has said that there will be no change in the schedule of the Bihar assembly polls, announced by the commission.

He said the 4-phase poll schedule for the Bihar Assembly polls was announced after consulting everyone and everything had been taken care of.

Political parties unhappy with Bihar poll schedule

"Polls will take place as per dates announced," he said.

Tondon, who arrived on Wednesday morning in Patna on a 2-day visit to review poll preparations for the first phase of the polling in state, said there was no scope for rescheduling of polls, keeping in view the court order.

The Supreme Court had directed that Bihar polls be held within 6 months of the Assembly dissolution.

Hence, the poll process has to be completed by November 22.

Tandon will visit the Gaya division on Wednesday, and will be in Muzaffarpur on Thursday .

The Election Commission had also called a meeting with the chief secretaries and police chiefs of Bihar and Jharkhand, for a report on the Naxal-affected districts of the 2 states.

A United Progressive Alliance delegation will be approaching the EC, seeking to complete the polling process in two phases, keeping in mind that the poll dates may clash with the festive season.
