September 05, 2005 20:46 IST

Ali Mohammed, the accused father-in-law in the much publicised Imrana rape case, was on Monday denied bail by a district and sessions court in Muzaffarnagar. Judge N H Zaidi rejected the application saying there is "no case of bail".

A lower court also rejected Mohammed's bail application on June 27. Imrana, a 28-year-old mother of five, accused her father-in-law of raping her.

The case had hit the headlines when a local community panchayat passed a verdict asking Imrana to treat her husband as her son and banning her from living with him following the alleged rape. Police have already filed a chargesheet against Mohammed, who is in judicial custody.
