Despite Saturday evening's serial blasts, the markets in Delhi [Images] will remain open for auspicious shopping on the occasion of Dhanteras on Sunday.

This decision was taken by both the Market Associations and the government.

Markets that do not usually shut on Sundays will remain open for shoppers to make purchases for Dhanteras, Diwali and Eid festivals, an official said.

Shops in the city had been temporarily closed on Saturday evening after the blasts.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has asked private security staff deployed in markets to coordinate with the local police. Dikshit has also called upon people to be vigilant to ward off nefarious designs of terrorists.
