The Union home ministry has called an emergency high-level meeting to review the situation in the capital in the wake of the three blasts that left at least 16 people dead and several injured.

The meeting was called by Home Minister Shivraj Patil to beef up security in the capital.

Union Home Secretary V K Duggal, Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul and other high level officers would attend the meeting.

The first blast occurred at Paharganj, nearly 300 metres from the New Delhi railway station, at 1830 hrs.

The other blasts occurred at Sarojini Nagar and Govindpuri in South Delhi.

The police also found a bomb at a bank in Chandni Chowk, which was later defused by the bomb squad.
