October 25, 2005 03:05 IST

Head Constable Chandrakant Pawar, accused of raping a minor girl near Sahar police station in Mumbai, was dismissed from service Monday.

"Pawar has been dismissed from service by using provisions of Article 311 of the Constitution under which a government servant can be dismissed," City Police Commissioner A N Roy said.

Pawar, attached to the Sahar police station, had allegedly raped the minor ragpicker on October 17 and was arrested the next day. He was later remanded to police custody till October 25.
