Passengers of the Kanyakumari Express, which left from Bangalore Sunday night, had a miraculous escape after three bogies of the train derailed between Varadhapura and Kamasamudram at 12.45 PM.

The South Western Railway said the bogies next to the engine had jumped the track. However, the remaining bogies were attached to another engine and the train left for Kanyakumari on a diverted route.

Track restoration work, which was going on in full swing, was hampered due to rain.  Passengers were put to inconvenience as most of the trains, including the Shatabdi Express, the Chennai Lalbagh and the Chennai Express, in the section have been cancelled for the day.
