Destitute women in quake-hit areas to get Rs 10,000 each

The Jammu and Kashmir [Images] government Monday said an amount of Rs 10,000 each would be given to destitute women in quake-ravaged areas of the state.

"The Social Welfare Department has been directed to provide an amount of Rs 10,000 each to destitute women under the National Family Benefit Scheme and Rs 600 each to all children under the national foundation Communal Harmony," Minister of State for Social Welfare Ghulam [Images] Hassan Khan said.

Khan, who concluded a four-day tour of quake-hit areas of Kupwara district, said he has also directed the field staff to prepare the list of poor, orphans, destitute children, widows and handicapped in the district so that financial assistance could be given to the affected persons.

He said 74 children have been identified as orphans in Tangdhar area, who would be adopted in Srinagar [Images], Kupwara and Handwara destitute homes till a desitute home is set up in Tangdhar.
