A Kasargod court on Thursday sentenced one person to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him for raping a minor girl at her residence five years ago.

Delivering the verdict, the district additional sessions judge N K Vijayan said the 28-year old T Narayanan will have to undergo two more years RI if he failed to remit the fine amount, which was to be paid to the girl.

The incident occurred in January 2000, when Narayanan went to the residence of 14-year-old Neerchal in Uliathadukka near Kasargod, in the guise of asking for drinking water.

The court was told that the incident was repeated on four different occasions but the man was reported to have threatened the family members with dire consequences if they dared reveal the matter in public.

As the girl delivered a baby boy, who later died, the girl's family registered a case before the Badiyadukka police on May 14, 2001.
