Home Secretary reviews quake relief measures

The Union Home Secretary V K Duggal at a meeting of central and state officials in Srinagar [Images] on Wednesday reviewed relief and rehabilitation measures in the quake-ravaged areas of Jammu and Kashmir [Images]. The Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya presented a detailed resume of the work conducted during the last ten days and said that almost all villages affected by the devastating quake have been reached out and sufficient relief material distributed among the affected families, an official spokesman said.

He said the operation is continuing unabated and special medical teams have been deployed in the affected areas to ensure 100 per cent coverage of healthcare. Adequate supply of essential commodities including fuel and kerosene oil has been ensured in such areas and every family is being reached out to provide the required succour, he added.

Bakaya said 600 cubic feet of timber has already been deposited in six timber depots at Uri, Lagama, Nambla, Dacchi, Salamabad and Shedpora while as 1500 cubic feet of timber has been placed at four depots of Tangdhar, Gabra, Chiterkot and Tad. The J&K cements is supplying 2000 cement bags daily to Uri and Tangdhar to meet the requirements there while 40 tonnes of CGI sheets have already been dispatched to Baramulla and 100 tonnes of these sheets are being dumped at Uri and Tangdhar.

The army, air force and central agencies like the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police are adopting more than 20 villages in the affected areas for rebuilding as model villages with all basic amenities, he said.
