A police head constable of a suburban police station in Mumbai was arrested on Monday night for allegedly raping a minor girl - a rag picker - in the vicinity of the police station, sources said.

Head constable Chandrakant Pawar was spotted by an employee of the airport authority and handed over to the police with the help of an autorickshaw driver, they said.

Pawar was reported to be under the influence of alcohol, the police said.

Both the victim and Pawar were sent for medical examinations at different places, the police said.

Pawar was later remanded to police custody till October 25.

On April 21, 2005, a teenaged girl was raped by a cop in a chowky under the Marine Drive flyover in Mumbai.

The 16-year-old girl from Chembur was taking a walk on the promenade along Marine Drive with two boys late afternoon, when Constable Sunil More summoned them to the chowky. After asking the boys to leave, he bolted the door and raped the girl.
