Hurriyat to organise mass funeral prayer for quake victims

As the toll in Saturday's massive quake mounted to over 800, the Hurriyat Conference on Monday said it will organise a mass funeral prayer in Srinagar [Images] on Tuesday for all the those killed in the natural calmity in Pakistan, Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir [Images].

The prayers, led by amalgam chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, will be offered after zuhar prayers at around 2 PM in Jamia Masjid, a Hurriyat spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the executive council, working committee and general council of the conglomerate, which met on Monday, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life and colossal damage to property in parts of Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Pakistan.

"May the departed souls rest in peace and the members of the bereaved families bear the loss with patience and fortitude," a resolution passed at the meeting said.

Copies of the resolution were also sent to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images] and president of PoK, a Hurriyat statement said.
