A waiter of a restaurant in Barsol was injured after a police inspector allegedly beat him up for being late in fetching him a cup of tea, the police said.

Enraged over the delay, police inspector B D Ramhad of Barsol police station in Ghatsila sub-division threw the hot tea on the face of the waiter as soon as he brought it late on Tuesday evening. He then started beating up the waiter, Dinesh Dolai (25) black and blue, inflicting him grievous injuries in the head, sources said.

Dolai was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was given three stiches in the head, but his eyes remained unharmed, the owner of the restaurant said. Protesting against the incident on Tuesday, hundreds of residents of Barsol put up a road bloackade on the NH 33 for several hours, demanding immediate action against the police inspector.

The road traffic was badly disrupted on the highway, following the agitation. The agitation was lifted after three hours when the senior officials of the sub-division assured to take action against the inspector.

The Superintendent of Police in Jamshedpur, Ashish Batra, said the conerned police inspector was removed from the police station and the waiter was asked to lodge a written complaint for initiating action against Ram. Batra said police have also recommended for Ram's suspension in connection with the incident.
