Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday said his son Deepender singh Hooda's massive victory in the Rohtak parliamentary by-election is 'a victory of all sections of the society and of the farmers and hardworking people of the state'.

He said the people had given their blessings to the Congress candidate for his victory and it would be his endeavour to make Haryana the number one state in development.

He said the people have given a reply to those who were trying to harm the democratic set up.

"This election had unveiled those who were hatching conspiracies and indulging in political gimmicks by misleading the people," he said.

The newly elected 27-year-old MP also thanked the people for their massive support and assured them he will realise their dream of a developed Rohtak.

He said he will remain committed to high ideals in politics.

Deepender defeated the BJP candidate, Capt. Abhimanyu by 2.32 lakh votes.

He got 66.86 per cent votes polled. The BJP candidate won 23.15 per cent.

Deepender polled 3.55 lakh votes whereas Capt Abhimanyu got 1.23 lakh votes.

Of 15 candidates, barring the two, every contender forfeited security.

Abhimanyu, who had recorded 1,73,800 votes in the 2004 LS elections, lost around half-a-lakh votes.

The by-election was necessitated due to Hooda senior's resignation, who quit the LS seat following his election to the state legislature from Kiloi.
