Contingency plan to handle hijack situation approved

The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved a contingency plan for handling aircraft hijack situation, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

The committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Commissioner of Security (Civil Aviation) to prepare aviation security manual on handling aircraft hijack situation, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a written reply.

The minister said the committee was expected to submit its report by January 31, 2006.

A formal enquiry into overshooting of runway by Air Sahara Boeing 737 aircraft at Mumbai airport on October 9 is in progress, Patel said in a written reply to another question.
