The Aligarh Muslim University today withdrew its petition from the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict, which had held the University's minority status as illegal. The reason is that a similar appeal was pending before the High Court.

The petition, listed for hearing before a Bench headed by Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, was withdrawn by the counsel of the University who informed that an appeal against the verdict was pending before the High Court.
