Infiltration levels same as last year: Govt

November 24, 2005 19:14 IST

The government on Thursday said the level of infiltration from across the Line of Control and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir was the same compared to last year.

Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed said this in reply to a written question that was released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

He said the government has in its interaction with Pakistan at all levels, continuously stressed the fact that Islamabad has not taken any effective action to dismantle the infrastructure of support to terrorism on a permanent basis.

On a separate question about the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ahmed said the prime minister had conveyed that an end to infiltration and terrorism was essential if the peace process with Pakistan was to be carried forward successfully.

The prime minister also underlined that the infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan must be permanently dismantled, Ahmed informed the Lower House.
