Nitish Kumar to be sworn in on November 24

Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar is likely to be sworn-in as chief minister of Bihar on November 24 at the historic Gandhi Maidan of Patna.

History will complete a full circle on the day considering it was at this very venue that Jaiprakash Narayan gave his call for complete revolution.

His movement brought Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar into political life even though JP's call for change failed.

Nitish told select journalists, "People are impatient for change. I wish to go to Patna soon but the swearing–in ceremony can only take place after some formalities are dealt with."

The state chief secretary G S Kang has been constantly calling the incumbent chief minister since morning.

Unless Article 356 of the Constitution (which placed Bihar under President's Rule) is revoked by the central government, Nitish cannot take over the reigns of Bihar.

At his residence at 22, Akbar Road, there were no celebrations and about 100 supporters were seen. Nitish was smiling but his expressions of joy were controlled. He was cautiously underplaying his success.

The 54-year old engineer-turned politician leader, however, was not pleased with television channels interviewing his relatives.
