We will kill Maoist supporters: Ranvir Sena

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | November 15, 2005 13:24 IST

Ranvir Sena, the private army of upper caste-land owners at loggerheads with the Naxalites, has threatened to take revenge against the Naxalites, who on Sunday night stormed the Jehanabad district prison and abducted many members of the Sena.

"The Maoist actswill forceSena activiststo retaliate," a spokesperson for the Ranvir Sena said.

The Senahas also demanded that the Maoists release their men immediately.

Maoists kidnapped about 40 Sena prisoners lodged inthe jail.

Till now, nine of them were killed by Maoist and while the whereabouts of the others is not known.

  • Two of those killed were identified as Sena leaders Bade Sharma and Vishveshkar Roy.

Angry members of the Sena on Tuesday morning called for a bandh in protest against the Maoist act.

It is feared that the Sena may targetpoor backward caste and Dalits people who they consider are Maoist sympathisers.

"We have to give reply in their language by killing Maoist supporters and sympathizers,"a Sena leader told rediff.com.

He said Maoist had targeted Bhumihar prisoners selectively in Jehanabad by either killing inside jail or by taking away with them to kill them later.

Sena leaderssaid the incident has provoked them to start a fresh massacre of lower caste people in Maoist stronghold to keep them in check.

"If we will not teach them lesson, they will eliminate us and our people," he said.

On Sunday night, hundreds of Maoists stormed the Jehanabad police lines, district prison and administrative building.

The attack was blamed on the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, formed last year with the merger of the Maoist Communist Centre and the People's War Group.

In Jehanabad, over 200 people have been killed due to internecine violence between the backward castes backed by the Maoists and upper castes under the banner of the private militia Ranvir Sena.
