PM gets prestigious US university award

A leading United States university on Thursday presented Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] with one of its rare honours in recognition of the collaboration between its faculty and the Indian people.

Tufts University Vice-President Mary R Jeka told PTI Dr Singh was awarded the University President Medal at his residence in New Delhi. Tufts University President Lawrence S Bacow presented the award to Dr Singh during an evening appointment with him, she said.

The university, one of America's leading liberal arts institutions, also named UN Under-Secretary (Communications and Public Information) Shashi Tharoor for the same award.
