Azad to visit quake-hit areas of Srinagar

November 10, 2005 19:00 IST

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will tour various parts of the city to assess the damage caused by the recent earthquake.

"I will visit various areas of Srinagar, particularly quake-hit areas to assess the damage caused to property in the October 8 tremor and necessary relief will be provided to the affected families," Azad told opposition National Conference legislator Mohammed Syed Akhoon who called on him in Srinagar.

Akhoon, who represents Hazratbal constituency of Srinagar, apprised the chief minister of the various problems faced by people in the city in the aftermath of the quake.

Five hundred houses have been completedly damaged in Srinagar while thousands others suffered partial damage, but the government has not provided any relief, he claimed.

"National Conference hopes that Congress-led state government will ensure balanced development of all the three regions of the state including the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar," Akhoon said.
