PM asks Buta to avoid controversies

November 08, 2005 19:29 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said Bihar Governor Buta Singh should avoid triggering controversies through his statements.

Dr Singh told newspersons in Patna that in view of his constitutional post, Buta Singh should avoid issuing statements, which create confusion.

Regarding the Supreme Court`s order describing the role of Buta Singh and dissolution of the state Assembly as 'unconstitutional', he said the governor should keep in mind the dignity of the post. It was 'unfortunate' that the governor was trapped in controversies because of his statements, he added.

To another query regarding the pressure exerted upon the United Progressive Alliance government by its major alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal, led by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Dr Singh said Lalu was a senior cabinet colleague and his 'good' suggestions have been accepted.
