Union Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Narain Yadav resigned from his ministerial post on Saturday.

Rashtriya Janata Dal spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari confirmed the report of Yadav's resignation.

The minister was eluding the police for a fortnight after a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him for allegedly facilitating the illegal release of his brother and RJD candidate from Jamui Vijay Prakash from police custody on October 18.

Yadav, evading arrest on charges of "illegal" release of his brother Vijay Prakash from police custody in Jamui in Bihar, will be sending his resignation shortly, official sources said in New Delhi on Saturday.

A court in Jamui had on October 24 issued non-bailable warrant against Yadav, an RJD MP, and four others, including his brother and RJD candidate for Bihar assembly polls, and suspended police officer Mukteshwar Prasad for facilitating the "illegal" release of Prakash from police custody.

The minister had moved a bail application on October 25, which was rejected.

Vijay Prakash had been arrested in Jamui during polling in October after he was allegedly found in possession of a weapon besides a large quantity of liquor and cash.

Nearly two weeks after the NBW was issued against Yadav, police yesterday raided the official residence of the Union Minister in New Delhi but drew a blank.

The policemen searched the house for about half-an-hour and questioned some of those inside, including some servants of the Minister.
