Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Ramji Singh, against whom a first information report has been lodged in connection with recent communal riots in Mau, was arrested on Wednesday night. Singh, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, was arrested from a house in Indira Nagar area, police sources said.
A case of inciting communal violence had been registered against Singh and police had initiated attachment of property proceedings against him. Another accused in the communal violence, controversial independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari had surrendered before a court a few days ago.
Communal frenzy in Mau, which erupted during Dussehra festivities, had left 12 dead and 40 injured.
