Senior lawmaker and Chairman of the Congressional India Caucus Gary Ackerman has expressed outrage at the weekend serial bomb blasts in New Delhi and said the US stands in staunch support of India in the fight against terrorism.

"This atrocious and heinous act reaffirms the importance of standing firm with India in the fight to combat terrorism," the Democratic co chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans said in a statement.

"With our shared histories of freedom and democracy, the United States stands in staunch support of India, an important and courageous ally in the global war on terror," said the New York Democrat.

"On behalf of all Americans, I offer my prayers and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims," he said.

"I also express my deepest sympathies to those who have suffered injuries from this tragic and cowardly act," added Ackerman, who is a senior member of the House International Relations Committee.
