Additional Finance Commissioner N K Sinha was on Friday appointed the chief electoral officer of Bihar, official sources said.

Sinha's name was cleared by the Election Commission for appointment as the CEO of the state, Personnel Department Secretary Ravi Kant told PTI in Patna.

Sinha, a 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, replaces K C Saha.

On the directive of the EC a day after the assembly was dissolved on May 23, the state government had shortlisted three senior IAS officers -- N K Sinha; Alok Sinha, relief commissioner; and Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, secretary, Panchayati Raj and Rural Engineering Organisation -- for the post.

Out of the three, N K Sinha's name was cleared by the EC, Kant said.

A fresh assembly election is due in the state after the House was dissolved.
