Bihar Governor Buta Singh on Thursday came under attack for transferring Siwan District Magistrate C K Anil and his Gopalganj counterpart K K Pathak.

Anil and Pathak had made headlines when they banned Rashtriya Janata Dal members of Parliament Mohammed Shahabuddin and Sadhu Yadav from entering Siwan and Gopalganj respectively.

The opposition has accused Singh of taking the step to appease RJD president and Sadhu Yadav's brother-in-law, Lalu Prasad Yadav.

''It is highly unfortunate that the two upright Indian Administrative Service officers, who have been striving to end the terror of Shahabuddin and Sadhu Yadav in their respective districts, have been given transfer orders without any plausible reason,'' Bharatiya Janata Party national vice-president Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters.

Modi said the governor's action signalled the, "return of the incompetent and ineffective RJD regime. This is evident
from the shifting of Anil and Pathak, who had tightened their noose around habitual offenders like Shahabuddin and Sadhu Yadav."

Sharply reacting to the governor's order, Lok Janshakti Party state president Narendra Singh said, "It has tarnished the image of the President's rule as the two officials were performing extremely well and had checked crime in Siwan and Gopalganj."
