A petition was filed against Election Commissioners B B Tandon and N Gopalaswamy in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramparvesh Choubey in Patna on Thursday for making derogatory remarks against the Yadav caste.

The petition was filed on the basis of allegations made by senior Indian Administrative Service officer L V Saptarishi in writing against Tandon and Gopalswamy in which he accused the ECs of countermanding polls in Chapra.

The court has fixed July 5 as the date for the hearing of the petition.

The petition was filed under Indian Penal Code Sections 499, 506, 511 and 120.

Earlier, a Delhi-based advocate, Ravi Mohan, had moved the Delhi high court against the appointment of Tandon as chief election commissioner on May 15.

Mohan, however, dropped his petition shortly after the Delhi high court asked him to file an affidavit confirming the authenticity of Saptarishi's letter on the basis of which he filed the petition.
