A female patient was allegedly raped by two employees of a private hospital in Hoshiarpur district in Punjab on Tuesday night, police officials said.

Employees Mintu and Bittu allegedly administered an intoxicant injection to the patient -- who was operated for appendicitis -- after she complained of pain.

The men then took the girl to an adjoining room and allegedly raped her, the police said.

Senior Medical Officer Dr G P S Bedi told reporters on Wednesday that two lady doctors have been appointed to conduct medical checks on the girl to determine whether she was raped.

The police have recorded the girl's statement.

Police said a case has been registered against Mintu and Bittu, who are absconding.
