A huge consignment of 5,012 rounds of ammunition was found stashed in five abandoned suitcases in a coach of the Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani Express at Guwahati Railway station on Tuesday.

The suitcases were found in coach no AS-8 during a routine check, Superintendent of Government Railway Police Jiban Chandra Koch told PTI.

Of the 5,012 rounds, 3,255 were of 7.62 SLRs, 1,697 rounds of .303 rifles and 60 rounds were of CTN rifles.

Passengers of the coach were questioned, but none could say who left the suitcases, Koch said. No arrests were made nor was any passenger detained, he added.

Security has been tightened at railway stations and tracks, he said.

The train left on schedule, he added.
