Congress Member of Parliament from Amethi Rahul Gandhi [Images] targeted the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh during his maiden submission in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

He asked the state government to comply with the Supreme Court direction on payment of arrears to cane farmers.

The MP said that though the state authorities had informed the apex court that private sugar mill owners did not owe anything to cane growers, the state cane commissioner told a TV channel that arrears totalling Rs 517 crore in 2002-03 had not been paid to the farmers.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee complimented Rahul for his first remarks as a member of the House.
