India to take up visa issue with US: Natwar

India will take up with the US the issue of visa being denied to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images], External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh said on Friday.

Singh told newspersons in New Delhi that he would be reporting the matter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and other colleagues.

He said he will take up the matter with US embassy officials.

Singh said on February 28, his ministry had sent a note verbale to the American embassy mentioning that the Gujarat CM would be visiting the US to address the Asian-American Hotel Owners' Association in Florida [Images] and meet business leaders.

It had requested that multi-entry visa be affixed on Modi's passport, the minister said.
