The Supreme Court judge, who was approached by 'someone to change' a judge involved in fodder scam case trial, on Thursday clarified that the caller from the Patna high court had enquired whether the trial judge could be promoted.

Justice S N Variava said, "My reply was that the high court could do whatsoever was possible under the rules."

He said the controversy created by large-scale media coverage was unwarranted and he was issuing the clarification to put an end to the unnecessary controversy.

On Wednesday, an SC Bench disclosed that it had been approached by 'someone from the high court' at Patna for changing the trial judge hearing the multi-crore rupees fodder scam case against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
