Freshman Congressman Piyush 'Bobby' Jindal will serve as vice chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Prevention of Nuclear and Biological Attacks.

The subcommittee deals with nuclear and bio-terrorism threats against the United States.

"I am honored to be asked to be vice chair of the subcommittee," Jindal said. "America must be ever vigilant against future attacks, especially an attack using nuclear or biological means."

"The responsibilities of the committee are of great importance to our country. I am happy to play a part," he said.

"There is no higher priority for the federal government than the continued protection of the American people and winning the War on Terror. I look forward to playing my part in the effort on the committee and serving as vice chair."

Subcommittee Chairman John Linder said, "It is an honor to serve with Jindal. As a Rhodes Scholar he has clearly demonstrated his capacity for leadership. I look forward to working with him to ensure the Department of Homeland Security is focused on its mission to protect our citizens and our way of life from nuclear and biological terrorism."

The subcommittee met for the first time on Wednesday for a classified briefing focusing on the prevention of nuclear terrorism.
