A man shot his girlfriend and then tried to kill himself at a restaurant in Kurukshetra in Haryana on Monday, police said.
The accused, identified as Satvinder, had a tiff with his girlfriend before he pulled out a gun and shot the girl.
He then shot himself.
The doctors at Civil Hospital declared the girl dead.
Satvinder, who kept murmuring, "Girls betray you, don't trust them," was struggling for survival when he was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh.
He sustained at least one bullet injury in the stomach, police said.
Police said Satvinder, who is said to be serving in the army, is a resident of Bali village in Sonipat district.
The girl was from Rohtak.
