Former Union minister Karan Singh and mountaineer M S Kohli plan to start adventure and leadership camps for school children in India.

"The camps will become places where youngsters will be given physical fitness and leadership training," Singh said at the launch of Kohli's autobiography One More Step in New Delhi on Saturday.

"Funds could be allocated from each Member of Parliament's area fund. A grant of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh each will help bring about a fitness revolution in India. Children will learn to climb, trek and take part in other activities," the Rajya Sabha member said.

The first such camps will be set up in the seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi.

"It is unfortunate the fitness culture is eroding fast. Children are content listening to the cricket commentary, which does not qualify as an exercise," Singh added.

Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Arun Prakash, Indo-Tibetian Border Police Director General Kanwaljit Singh and mountaineer Santosh Yadav were present.
