With the recovery of four more bodies, the toll in the Ghatghar power project tunnel flooding in Thane district has
risen to six.

Efforts are on to rescue the other eight trapped in the tunnel for two days now.

"Despite hours of search in the flooded tunnel, the naval divers, who commenced their work on Wednesday evening, could retrieve only two bodies before light faded. But their efforts continued and four more bodies were recovered this morning," a senior police officer said.

Fourteen labourers in the 590m Tail Raise Tunnel of the 250 MW Ghatghar hydel power project were trapped when water gushed in after breaching a wall on Tuesday.

District Collector Nandkumar Jantre and Superintendent of Police Archana Tyagi are camping at the spot to
supervise rescue operations.
