Police on Tuesday detained a newspaper journalist for posing as a bar girl before Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil at his official residence to allegedly "lure" and catch him in a "sting operation".

"The journalist, posing as bar girl at the Janta darbar of Patil at his official residence Chitrakoot, was detained along with a photographer, who was secretly capturing the minister as well as the scribe on camera," official sources said.

Police have registered a first information report under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against the duo.

Patil, as the home minister, recently got a bill, which will ban all dance bars in the state, passed in the Maharashtra assembly.

Governor S M Krishna has still not given his assent to the bill.
