Angered by an acute shortage of water and frequent power cuts in Patna, hundreds of residents on Saturday took to the streets and blocked traffic on the arterial Ashok Rajpath.

Shouting slogans, the residents blocked traffic at Patna market, Sayedpur, Kankerbagh and Rajendra Nagar. Sit-ins were also organised outside electricity board offices.

The residents complained that the state administration was not making any serious attempts to solve their problems.

All major business and residential areas in the state capital, barring VVIP areas, have been facing 12-15 hour power cuts every day.

The Bihar State Electricity Board officials said while the state needs a minimum of 995 MW of power, the supply currently is around 700-730 MW.

The officials said a fault in a 131 KVA tower in Jehanabad since June 4 has worsened the situation.
