Lifer for woman, son in dowry case

A local court in Punjab's Moga district has awarded life imprisonment to a mother-son duo in a dowry death case.

Inderjit Singh and his mother were sentenced for forcing Rajwant Kaur (Singh's wife) to commit suicide in December 2001.

Additional Sessions Judge Harjinder Pal Singh on Thursday also ordered Singh and his mother to pay Rs 50,000 each as compensation to Kaur's family.

According to the prosecution, Kaur was harassed my her in-laws to bring more dowry.

Kaur's father had slapped a case of dowry harassment against Singh, his mother and sister in June 2002.
