A flood alert has been sounded around Udumalpet in Coimbatore district following the release of water from the Amaravathy dam, which is reaching its full capacity of 90 feet, official sources said.

The storage of the dam has already reached 88 feet due to the good rains in the catchment area for the last few days.

As water is being released from the dam, in anticipation of more inflow, the people in the area have been asked to move to safer areas for a few days, the sources said.
