All in-bound and out-bound long-distance trains remain cancelled for the fourth day on Saturday as the tracks, that suffered extensive damage in Kalyan-Titwala section, have still not been restored, the Central Railway said in Mumbai.

"Heavy rains and flooding in and around Kalyan area (in neighbouring Thane district) has resulted in extensive damages to the tracks in the region. About 1 km length of track has been totally washed away due to flood waters, which was 4.5 to 5 mt high in that area," Central Railway officials told PTI.

Flood water has not only washed away complete tracks, ballast and the bank, but also uprooted the over-head equipment masts, signalling equipment and cables on that section, they said.

"About 1.5 lakh cubic mt of earth work is required to restore the track besides repairs to the equipment," the officials said.

Central Railways is also running shuttle services between Titwala and Kasara.

Suburban services on the Central (main) and Harbour lines have been restored too with the locals running up to Kalyan and Panvel, he said.

Meanwhile, all the long-distance trains on the Western Railway are running on time and 85% suburban train services have been restored, a WR official said.

Out of the 20 rakes, which were severely damaged due to flooding, seven have been restored and 13 are undergoing repair, he said.

In the Central (main), the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-Kalyan fast line is running in 15 to 30 mins frequency while the CST-Thane slow and fast lines are running at an interval of 15 minutes.

The suburban trains on the Harbour line CST-Panvel are running at a 15 mins frequency and CST-Bandra/Andheri at 20 mins interval while Thane-Vashi is running as per schedule, the CR officials said.

"As of now, 650 suburban services are being run with 50 rakes and it is likely to be increased as and when the rakes are available," they added.
