The Yamuna river continues to be in spate following the release of about one lakh cusecs of water in two phases from the Hathnikund Barrage and the Tajewala headworks near Yamunanagar.

According to official sources, the Yamuna has submerged a vast tract of agricultural land lying between its embankment and the 48-km-long earthen protective bund between the Bega and Daheara villages along the Haryana-Delhi border.

•    Gujrat floods

Standing crops, including sugarcane, bajra and maize, were the worst-hit. Farmers who had sown these crops have suffered huge financial losses.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ganaur Mange Ram Dhul and other officials visited the site near Bega village and claimed that the flood situation was under control.

There was no cause for anxiety for the people living in the villages on the embankment of the river. However,  the residents of Bega village, who disputed the claim of the SDM, said the Yamuna had washed away a portion of the stone stud near Raksera and Simbalgarh village in Panipat district.
