July 15, 2005 13:03 IST

The Supreme Court on Friday sought assistance of Attorney General Milon Banerjee to examine the question whether it should entertain a petition challenging inclusion of tainted persons in the Union council of ministers in the absence of any debate in Parliament on the issue.

Posting the matter for hearing on August 1, a bench headed by Chief Justice R C Lahoti also appointed senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi as amicus curiae in the matter.
